Patrimonial forged
steel railing
A railing designed to feel like it was always there — respecting the character of a Westmount heritage home while meeting today's standards for structure, safety, and climate durability.
About the project
Westmount's architectural identity is defined by its early 20th-century homes — stone facades, tall windows, iron details. Working in this context means every addition must feel earned. This exterior railing was designed from the start to read as part of the original building, not a renovation overlay.
The forged steel profile was developed to echo the detailing found in the existing ironwork on the property. Every element was custom-fabricated, then powder-coated for long-term performance against Montreal's freeze-thaw cycles and road salt exposure. The result holds its finish through seasons without the peeling or rust that untreated steel develops over time.
