Custom steel counter
& shelves — Mama's Boy
Industrial presence, refined finish. A bar counter built from two finishes that live in deliberate tension — one raw and evolving, one crisp and permanent.
About the project
The client wanted a space that felt grounded — not branded, not generic. A counter that would anchor the room without demanding attention. The solution was in the contrast between two steel finishes that don't typically share the same piece.
The bar front was intentionally oxidized: a controlled rusting process that develops a warm, textured patina over time and then sealed. No two oxidized panels look identical. The countertop was powder-coated — a hard, uniform surface suited to daily café service. Sharp edges, seamless construction, no visible fasteners.
The shelving was fabricated to the same language throughout. The result is a counter that reads as a design decision from across the room and holds up to daily use up close.
